| Huntly 27th Oct 2007 - Strike 3!!
I am now certain that we are trying to run meetings too early in the year. For the 3rd week in a row the weather has played havoc with upper North Island meetings. It must be time that Huntly and Auckland come to the conclusion that trying to start racing in October is a waste of time. I firmly believe that a November season start will reduce the chances of rained out meetings at the start of the season. Nothing is guaranteed, but surely a later start to the season must increase the odds of actually seeing meetings completed!
The average punter with a family would be feeling mighty sick by now after paying over cold hard cash for the last three weeks and only getting to witness a handful of races. If these punters were first time visitors to the tracks they would be feeling pretty ripped off by now and this in turn could turn people away from attending future meetings… lets hope not!
Anyway, 3 weeks and 2 races in hardly the start we wanted to get track time with the new car. Stratty opened at the weekend and the mods there got 3 races so they are 1 race up on us all ready and they have only done 1 meeting! We were down for race 6 and as we only had 7 cars there was a marble draw. We drew grid 4 behind 6a Brian Jesen. It is fair to say we missed the setup a bit as the car was way to over hooked. Luckily for us so was Brian and foxy was able to slip past on lap 2 for the lead and take out the win. 2 wins from 2 races for the season is a pretty good strike rate but in all honesty we would gladly give up both wins for more races if we had a choice!
This weekend the plan is to be at Waikaraka Park for their fireworks meeting. This meeting was a huge success last year as their opening meeting and god only knows what they changed it for this year. Hopefully the weather gods play the game and we are able to get more than one race in.
