Ready to rumble ... Strike 1
What a mission! It is sometime since we have had to get a brand new car ready to race and it is fair to say we may have underestimated the amount of fiddly things that need to be sorted to get the car complete.
The plan was to try and make at least one practice at the park before opening night but as last week went on it became clear that this was unlikely to happen. Every time we thought we were getting close something small needed to be changed to get everything right. From wing trees to wheels to bumpers, modifications needed to be done.
Saturday was all hands on deck and we thank the boys from the Pacific Urethanes team and Dan Haigh from Haigh Blocks for their help in getting the car together. It was a job and a half, but by 6:15pm on Saturday the car was complete and we loaded it in the trailer and headed down to Huntly with the intention of hopefully getting a run. As all will know, the weather gods had other ideas and 5 minutes after we arrived the meeting was called. To say the boys were gutted is an understatement!
The good news is that apart from a wee bit more signwriting that needs to be completed the car is looking good and is ready to go. Waikaraka have added mods to the program for Saturday night and weather permitting we will be out for the first run in the new car. The plan at this stage is to just get out on the track and take things a bit easy to allow the new brakes to bed in and allow Foxy time to get familiar with the new car. Don't expect to see Foxy throwing the new car around like normal until he gets a few laps under his belt and get comfortable with what he has. The boys and I have graciously agreed to allow him one race to achieve this!!
Approx 10 cars are expected on opening night which is a good size field and should allow all to start the season off without the pressures of racing in a 14-16 car field. Most guys are getting pretty excited to be hitting the track so as long as this enthusiasm is controlled we should all have a good start to the season.
We hope to see you all at the track and hopefully people will approve of the new look 3nz J&J Autoracing modified.
See you there.
